...that was in 2014. It came as a surprise - someone asked us to help a homeowner who had lost his job at no fault of his own - he had been a caregiver for an elderly person who had passed away. He and his wife were close to retirement age and after a couple of agonizing months with no new income they made the difficult decision to sell their home.
The homeowner was very pro-active. When we were called in he had already moved most of their stuff to the garage. He had fixed and painted the walls in a soft grey - a very smart color that practically enhances every space. He also had removed the curtains, so we were able to work with an almost open slate. We brought in white sheer curtains and used his remaining furniture to stage the home - just added some accessories. The house showed lovely. It sold very fast and well over asking price. It totally saved their day and made us feel proud!
I then realized that staging is not just a design job but it can also turn out to be a tool to help people. And that is something that I find to add value to my life.
We know that it is not always the homeowners' choice to sell. Sometimes they have to move due to a job change. Sometimes homeowners have to live in the house while it is on the market. Often they are on a budget. We always aim to deliver a fabulous staging job within the constraints of budget and time.
